7 Theories about Loki Season 2 episode 3’s big cliffhanger ending

Loki season 2, episode 3’s cliffhanger ending left audiences wondering what that big secret could be, and seven huge theories have since been posed.

The cliffhanger ending of Loki season 2, episode 3, has caused some to suggest theories about what that big secret could actually be. Phase 5’s Loki season 2 is in full swing, having now released half of the season’s episodes, and finally bringing Jonathan Majors’ Victor Timely into the MCU after he was teased in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s post-credits scene. Loki season 2, episode 3, “1893,” saw Loki and Mobius travel to 1893’s Chicago World’s Fair to find Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes, but also come face-to-face with Kang the Conqueror and He Who Remains variant Victor Timely, but the episode’s ending has left many viewers curious.

After Sylvie allowed Loki and Mobius to take Victor Timely to the TVA at the end of Loki season 2, episode 3, she confronted Renslayer and thrust the former TVA Judge through a Time Door to the Citadel at the End of Time. Accompanied by Miss Minutes, who received some haunting developments in “1893,” Ravonna Renslayer is met by the corpse of He Who Remains, with the Citadel crumbling around them. Seemingly trapped, Miss Minutes declares that she has a secret to reveal, and while the episode ends without revealing exactly what that secret is, viewers have taken to Reddit to pose several interesting theories on Miss Minutes’ big reveal.

7.He Who Remains & Ravonna Renslayer Ruled The TVA Together

One explanation for Miss Minutes’ secret is that Ravonna Renslayer may have previously ruled over the Time Variance Authority with He Who Remains. Loki season 2 has already revealed that the staff of the TVA have periodically had their memories wiped, seemingly with the exception of Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros, so it’s possible that Renslayer may have had a history as the ruler of the TVA before being kicked to the curb and having her memory wiped by He Who Remains. Following her ordeal with Victor Timely in “1893,” Renslayer declares that she is in charge, at least before Sylvie reappears, which could extend to the entire TVA.

6.Ravonna Renslayer Is A Variant Of Kang The Conqueror

One popular and shocking theory that has arisen from Loki season 2, episode 3, is that Ravonna Renslayer may actually be a variant of Kang the Conqueror, along with He Who Remains and Victor Timely. If this is Miss Minutes’ huge reveal, this could seriously alter the dynamic of Loki and of the MCU as a whole. This would not only be the first time one of Kang’s female variants has been seen, but also a variant who doesn’t look like Jonathan Majors. This reveal would also perfectly mirror Loki’s overarching storyline featuring Loki and Sylvie, particularly if Kang the Conqueror and Ravonna Renslayer shared a relationship in the past.

5.He Who Remains & Ravonna Renslayer Were Lovers

This popular theory is perhaps the most convincing, particularly when considering Kang the Conqueror and Ravonna Renslayer’s history in Marvel Comics. Kang and Renslayer shared a lengthy and tumultuous romantic relationship in Marvel Comics, so the idea of them being lovers in the MCU has some solid precedence. This would also give weight to the recording Loki heard back in Loki season 2, episode 1, “Ouroboros,” in which he seemingly heard He Who Remains (or another variant) speaking fondly of Renslayer. A romance between Renslayer and Victor Timely was teased throughout “1893,” so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to imagine this being Miss Minutes’ big secret.

4.Ravonna Renslayer & Kang The Conqueror Are Related

Veering away from a romantic connection between the pair, some have suggested that Ravonna Renslayer may actually be revealed as an ancestor or descendant of Kang the Conqueror. Throughout his storylines in Marvel Comics, Kang the Conqueror was regularly on the hunt for an heir to his empire, so it’s possible that Renslayer may be filling this role in the MCU. Miss Minutes may reveal Renslayer is Kang’s daughter, mother, or even a more distant ancestor, though this would surely complicate matters since Ravonna Renslayer and Victor Timely seemed to strike up a romance in “1893.” Even so, this would certainly be a shock for MCU viewers.

3.He Who Remains Pruned Ravonna Renslayer

A scene from Loki season 2’s trailer showed Ravonna Renslayer apparently in the Void, surrounded by the deep purple glow of the smoke-creature Alioth. The Void was introduced in Loki season 1 as the TVA’s dumping ground – a barren wasteland at the end of time where everything the TVA prunes ends up, including several Marvel Easter eggs and potentially countless Loki variants. It’s possible that, following the end of their arrangement and Renslayer’s usefulness in establishing the TVA, He Who Remains may have pruned his former ally, resigning her to either a life on the run from Alioth, or a quick and painless death.

2.Miss Minutes Knows About Ravonna Renslayer’s Life On The Sacred Timeline

Ouroboros confirmed in Loki season 2, episode 3, that Miss Minutes doesn’t only have full administrative access to the TVA, but also to the entire universe, suggesting that she knows the details of every TVA workers’ previous lives on the Sacred Timeline. This may be her big secret that she’s set to reveal to Renslayer, uncovering the mysteries of Renslayer’s own path on the Sacred Timeline, and perhaps her own Nexus Event. Loki season 1 introduced the Renslayer variant Rebecca Tourminet, who is a teacher, but it’s unclear whether this is Renslayer’s true history, and it’s still unknown what she did to constitute originally being taken by He Who Remains.

1.Miss Minutes Convinced He Who Remains To Wipe Renslayer’s Memory

As well as developing more of the mythos surrounding Kang the Conqueror, and giving more depth to Ravonna Renslayer herself, Loki season 2, episode 3, also gave Miss Minutes more development than ever before. The bulk of this involved revealing Miss Minutes’ romantic interest in He Who Remains and Victor Timely, which first manifested as jealousy when witnessing the growth of a romantic spark between Renslayer and Timely. This means that it’s possible that Miss Minutes herself convinced He Who Remains to abandon his love and wipe Renslayer’s memory, perhaps uncovering more about Miss Minutes’ potential control over He Who Remains, and her true villainous nature.

Miss Minutes’ secret in Loki season 2, episode 3, will remain a mystery until Loki’s next episode releases on October 26, 2023. With several other mysteries to uncover, including how much help Victor Timely can be at the TVA, who pruned Loki in “Ouroboros,” why OB’s memory hasn’t been wiped, and what is happening to the Citadel at the End of Time, the remaining episodes of Loki season 2 will surely contain several more twists and turns. Revealing Miss Minutes’ secret regarding Ravonna Renslayer will surely only be one piece of a much larger puzzle, though it could significantly change the landscape of the MCU for good.

New episodes of Loki release every Thursday at 9pm ET6pm PT on Disney+.
