MCU Phase 5’s Bombshell Twist totally changed Endgame’s final fight

Secret Invasion’s twist about the Skrull’s presence on Earth completely changes Avengers: Endgame’s final battle, and it’s very disappointing.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe dropped a major twist in the TV series Secret Invasion, which now changes Avengers: Endgame‘s final fight. Avengers: Endgame marked the end of the MCU’s Infinity Saga and the original Avengers team, but Marvel still had many plans to continue expanding this connected universe. Phase 4 saw the first TV shows that are an official part of the MCU, connecting to the movies and other TV shows, and some of these have been key in the development of the Multiverse Saga. Other shows, however, have done more harm than good to the MCU.

Phase 5 saw the release of the TV series Secret Invasion, which marked the proper return of Nick Fury after spending some time in space and reunited the audience with the Skrulls. Secret Invasion saw Fury and Talos uncovering a conspiracy by a group of radical Skrulls, led by Gravik, who planned to conquer Earth. Secret Invasion ended with a big twist that introduced a new, powerful character and also unleashed a global hunt for Skrulls, as they continue to hide among humans – and this twist totally changes the final battle in Avengers: Endgame, and not for its benefit.

The MCU’s Skrull Twist Would’ve Totally Changed Endgame’s Final Fight

Secret Invasion addressed the big question of what happened to the Skrulls after the events of Captain Marvel, as they were supposed to be getting a new home. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen and the Skrulls stayed on Earth, using their shapeshifting abilities to blend with humans without raising suspicion. To make it worse, the Skrulls still couldn’t find a home of their own at the end of Secret Invasion, and United States President Ritson issued a bill that declared all off-world species as hostile forces, threatening to hunt down the Skrulls that remained on Earth. In addition to that, the Skrulls had been infiltrating Earth for decades, to the point where they not only posed as powerful politicians but also took the place of characters like Rhodey.

If there have been thousands of Skrulls on Earth for decades, none of the MCU’s biggest heroes were aware of this, but had they known, the Skrulls would have been important additions to the Avengers’ team during the Battle of Earth. The Skrulls, superpowered or not, would have been key allies to the Avengers and the rest of the MCU’s heroes during the Battle of Earth and could have given the good guys the upper hand. Joining the battle would have also been beneficial to the Skrulls, as it would have been a perfect setup for them to reveal their true nature and be seen and welcomed as heroes on Earth.

How The Skrulls Being Involved In Endgame Would’ve Made Secret Invasion Almost Impossible

The problem with revealing the strong Skrull presence on Earth before Avengers: Endgame and thus having the Skrulls join the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame, is that it would have made Secret Invasion almost impossible. As mentioned above, fighting alongside the Avengers and company would have given the world a positive image of the Skrulls, who would have been seen as heroes, so there would have been no reason to panic and hunt them down. Surely, there could have still been radical Skrulls who didn’t want to help the MCU’s heroes and instead wanted to destroy the planet, but even then, it would have been way harder for President Ritson to get approval on his order to catch all the Skrulls. It’s to be seen how the events of Secret Invasion will affect the rest of the MCU, but they certainly would have made some past battles a lot easier to win.
